I am currently using a brunswick Fury bowling ball. I have a 185 avg, but I want to have a bigger hook and longer break arc to this ball. The house I bowl at is pretty oily conditions, and I tend to get a over/under reaction on this ball as is. What should I use to increase the hooking action on this ball?

Well I avg 207 and this is what I do. I either go to the local pro shop and have him sand it but most times i simply use my own black sand paper which is real fine and just put some water on it and it drys up real quick. Last for a few weeks then just sand it again. It works for me cause i like my ball to curve on any lane conditions. Good Luck.
Scotchbrite pads with specific roughnesses will do the trick, especially if you have a ball spinner to roughen it up evenly or just bring the ball to your nearest pro shop to rejuvenate the coverstock. After you tell them how you want the ball to react, they will renew the coverstock first to remove all lane conditioner, then adjust the cover with a specific coarseness pad to get it rough enough.
Hope this helps!
The truth is, changes to the surface of your bowling ball affect WHEN the ball hooks much more then HOW MUCH it hooks. It sounds like you are looking for two things (more hook, longer break point) that you simply can’t achieve at the same time with a change to the surface of the ball. Shining the surface of the ball will delay the break point, the ball will make its move further down the lane. The ball will have a bigger “snap” on the backend if you shine it. Conversely, if you dull the ball, the break point will be much earlier and you will likely see more of an arc in the ball reaction. The trouble you can run into here is that if your delivery isn’t good enough, the ball may “roll-out” by the time it gets to the pins and your carry will suffer. If you are serious about the game, I would advise that you consider picking up another ball. It is always good to have different equipment that is set up for different lane conditions. At minimum, it is good to have a shined ball and a dull ball that you go to.
Good Luck
