How much money do i need for a chihuahua?

I need to know how much it will cost for a chihuahua itself, plus expenses such as rabies shots, other shots, nutering, and for supplies, such as brushes, food bowls, clothing, bags, ect. Basically everything i’ll need for a puppy chiuhuahua. Please help!

Prices will vary depending on your location. Go to the pet store, and write down everything you’re going to want to buy, add up the prices, add those to the cost of actually purchasing the dog (which you should be getting from a good breeder, or a shelter… NOT the pet store). Then, call around to some vets and ask them about the cost of vaccinations, checkups, and neuter/spay.

call a local vet to find out how much vaccinations and neutering will cost. as for the rest, you can spend as much or as little as you want. check with breeders for the cost of a puppy, and go to your local pet supply store to find out how much you will need to spend on supplies. you just need to do a little investigation on your own.

as far as the dog it’s self, between 200-500 depending on the parentage and size, here, shots are 40 and all of the other stuff i would just look for things you like that are in your budget and you like… good luck on the dog search… http://www.domesticsales.com has several that you can look at for price comparing. just click animals, then chihuahuas..

I’d expect to pay between $750 and $1500 for a pet quality dog from a good breeder. http://pbrc.net/breeding3.html to learn what a good breeder is.

I’d also expect around $100-$200 for the first check up and shots.

I’d expect $200-$500 for set up costs.

Then, I’d expect around $100 for neutering, another $200 a year for teeth cleaning, and another $800-$1000 a year for general expenses.

Or, rescue a chihuahua who needs a home. Often times they come fixed and with all their shots. My rescued dog even came with a bag of food, a crate, toys, a sweater, and other stuff as well.

well, it depends how much youre willing to spend. if you go to petfinder, or an animal shelter, you will find a free chihuahua. DO NOT go to mall stores. they are waaaaay overpriced, and actually probably cause the whole thought of “small dogs are expensive”. if you check newspapers, you can find em for sale for about $100. then, if you go to a petsmart, these are ESSENTIAL supplies:

    Food dishes- $15
    Bed- $15
    food- $10 a bag
    collar- $5 to $10
    leash- $10 to $20.
dog (duh)- free to $500, if you get an uber bargain.
toys- (buy at least five) $3 each
    crate- $50
    sooo,

Lots of research for you to do here. Dog prices vary – is it a puppy? an adult? Are you getting it from a breeder? pet store? private party? the shelter?

Care costs vary too. Spay/Neuter clinics charge less, maybe even have some free services, some vets offer clinics once a month with reduced rates; you can expect to spend about $200 otherwise. Please spay or neuter your dog as soon as possible.

Shots can be given at clinics too, at reduced rates, but can cost about $20 each round, and puppies need three sets of shots in the beginning. Rabies and distemper shots last for various times, depending on the shot – some last as long as three years!

Check online for supply prices, like at PetSmart or PetCo. I would suggest a dry food like BilJac for a chihuahua, that’s what I feed my Yorkies. It is available at PetSmart.

Count on some yearly maintenance costs, like shots, teeth cleaning and an annual checkup. Much will depend on your dog’s age and general health. good Luck!

I am fostering a lovely Chihuahua puppy, since early January.
I have spent $40 on sweaters, $20 for a small bag of food that will last a long time, $102 on routine vet visits, and it will be another $88 for neutering, before I adopt him out.
His leash and collar were $13, and ID tag through help4pets is $33.
I already had bowls and toys, but that would have been another $15, or so.
Oh, I bought him 3 baby blankets, at $5 each
(Total ‘start-up costs’ $326, plus price of puppy)

The puppy, itself, didn’t cost me anything, as the breeder was extremely ill, and just trying to place her puppies. However, she normally sold her puppies for $400-$500
This puppy is 5 months old, and 3 pounds.
