Is it time to change eligibility for bowl games?

Considering the Big Ten and the SEC potentially will have between 8 and 10 teams in each conference eligible for a bowl game I think it’s time they change the rule of 6 wins. As long as we’re going to keep the current system, with no playoffs, than they have got to get more good teams into these crap bowls played in December. 6-6 should not get you into the postseason, 7-5 should be borderline

I think you’re right – I hate seeing .500 teams in bowl games. But it won’t happen because of the ridiculous number of bowl games. If they changed the eligibility there wouldn’t be enough teams for all the games. If you look at the Big Ten for example, there might be 10 teams eligible this year, but if you required 7 wins, it could drop to like 6.

Unfortunately they have so many bowls that it ends up having to take the 6-5 teams. It’s all about money.

I’d like to see the borderline teams from the BCS conferences matched against the top teams from lesser known conferences. It would be a far more interesting matchup to see a team from the WAC play one of the SEC teams than to see two 6-6 teams from power conferences play in a boring game.

even if there are 50 teams that are 6-6, not all will go to a bowl.

    eligibility doesn’t guarantee a bowl.
