your kitten should be happy with its new home! maybe some treats but everything else is good!
Sounds good to me. Maybe a few toys..
bl
that’s a great list for your new kitten……your kitten will be very busy playing, eating, drinking, sleeping, and loving…..so be ready for a lot of work
hope i could help
gee i’d love to be your kitty!
CATS ARE WONDERFUL
That sounds very good to me! As far as the toys go, be prepared for a lot of the smaller ones to get lost. I buy those little toy mice and balls for my cats and they end up losing them underneath the sofas, the entertainment center, the fridge, the oven…everywhere! I always have to buy more. Also, don’t worry if the kitten doesn’t like the collar at first. Most kittens don’t. When you do finally get it onto the kitten, check underneath the collar daily for a few days to make sure that the kitten doesn’t have an allergic reaction to it. Usually that shows up as hair loss. You can never have too much for your cat. I do recommend that your kitten see a vet soon for first shots if it hasn’t had them already. And if you plan on letting your kitten outside (which I wouldn’t if I were you) consider talking to the vet about preventative meds for fleas and ticks. Other than that it sounds like you are good!
Oh I almost forgot! You might want to consider having a lint roller or a fur trapper handy. Some cats shed quite a bit and the shedding combs don’t always get all of the hair. You can find them at almost any department or pet store.
dont give catnip to cats under 2 or they might become immune to it later on in life. you should prbly get some shampoo and nail clippers, although i have had more success and less split nails useing human clippers on my cats,
shheeesh spoiled kitty, thats more than my kitten has, i think youre set : )
You probably have a little bit more than you need, but it depends on the cat. We bought my kitten a scratching post but she’s never used it. Everything else is good. Make sure you give him/her lots of attention! They’ll like people more when they’re older, if you do.
that sounds great. looks like you’re well prepared, No Cat Nip yet its a waste of money……cats wont start reacting to catnip until they mature enough like their kitten teen years lol
Seems like you are trying to cover all bases. It is good to have a regular cardboard scratcher that you put on the floor. Not all kittens take to scratching vertically, and most take to those inexpensive cardboard ones.
If a young kitten, they will consider a brush a plaything, and probably swat at it. But soon, as they get older, they will really come to love being brushed so starting early will pay dividends.
Not all cats are sensitive to catnip, and cats are not sensitive under 4-5 months of age. So catnip can wait. Sensitivity to catnip is inherited from their parents, so not all cats inherit the sensitivity.
Toys can be as simple as wads of paper. And a plain cardboard box will provide hours of fun for your kitten.
Purina kitten chow should do fine. One thing to ask is what the kitty is already eating, and using for litter. Often, it helps to keep with the same before making changes. Food changes need to be done slowly, to avoid tummy upsets. And, if a drastic change in the litter, as regards to texture, provide both until your kitten likes the new type.
I have posted a link for a new kitten owner. I would read the information, but you pretty well have covered the supplies they suggest. A bed is often a waste of money, as they find a place to sleep, and Feliway is rarely needed.
But the very first item on your list should be a trip to the vet with your new kitten for a health assessment. That way there are no surprises, and you set up a schedule of vaccinations and spay/neuter.
One thing I didn’t see on your list – a flea comb is a necessity for me. My 5 cats (2 long-haired, 3 short-haired) love to be combed, and a flea comb takes out loose hair very nicely without leaving them bald
I started combing them a little at a time, and now they demand it as part of their daily affection quota.
A pin brush is ok for light brushing (mat and snarl control) for a long-haired cat, but not much good for a short-hair.
About your food and water bowls, most cats prefer to crouch when they’re eating. A stand may set the bowls up too high for your little one.
The clicker is a very good thing to have. Cats respond very quickly to positive stimulus training, and there are some great videos that give plenty of ideas that will be fun for both of you.
Also, what kind of litter was/is your kitten used to using? It’s a very good idea to start with what they’re used to, and gradually mix in the new kind that you want to switch to.
It sounds good except the cat collar and Purina kitty food. Cat collars are a choking hazard and unnecessary for indoor cats (which is where they belong of course!) They do make break away collars, but I still don’t trust them completely. Some are really hard to pull apart.
Any cat food you find in a grocery store is very unhealthy. Even Iams and Science Diet which are very expensive are full of bad ingredients. Cats are best on a high quality canned/wet food diet. Dry should be kept to a minimum. Probably the most convenient place to find high quality food is at Petco. There are several high quality brands to choose from. I buy Wellness (my cats LOVE the canned chicken!) and Wellness Core which has no grain. They have Natural Balance, Blue Buffalo, and some others. Another super high quality food is EVO. I get it at Canine Commissary (canned & dry), you can also get it online.
The main thing with cat/kitten food is that is has high quality ingredients! No or very little grain and no by-products. Also, you can research on Y/A in the search bar “high quality cat food” and “the best cat food” and you will learn alot that way.
*You may want to add a cozy cat bed. ( I like the ones that are for dogs though…they have a much bigger selection and the ones for small dogs are purrfect for cats!! : ]
*PLEASE NEVER declaw your kitty. It is not ONLY taking the claw out. They severe tendons, bones, and nerves. Research it- Alot of people don’t know how inhumane this procedure is. It is against the law in most of the world! The U.S. and Canada are the only places that it is legal that I know of. It is mutilation of their paws. I almost fainted when I researched it myself!!!
*Keep kitty indoors only. Cats are domesticated, they are perfectly happy indoors. Just give it tons of love, fresh water everyday, healthy food, regular vet checkups and you will have a healthy happy cat. =^..^=
Anyway, you sound really prepared! Cats are awesome—–enjoy your kitty!!! : )
yeah but don’t get Fragrance cat litter because ur cat might react to it coz like it might have an Allergy or something. just in case, get normal Kitty litter.
Hope i helped! xXx
