I have two kittens in the coming months – it is a planned takeover of an animal shelter. We’re just waiting to come to a boy and a girl from the same litter kittens but in the meantime, I try to fill kitten supplies – such as bowls, bedding, food. I heard that Royal Canin is the best 36 for a kitten – is this true? I also heard that I do not use clumping litter for her, but I went to PETCO Cat ever “natural” as non-clumping litter and I could not find him and they said it has not. I’m so confuddled. Is it to get another brand? What you do and when (if) a change is clumping litter? Should not each have their own bowl of cat food? I think so. . . ? I want to make sure is that I’m always like that off a good start. Thank you!

Litter is your personal preference and the cat will really care less. I prefer lightly scented litters in a automatic cleaning litter box. This keeps the cat smell out of your home.
For pet food I love the cost co brand “kirkland’s”. It is made my diamond and has high quality ingredients for a very reasonable price. The savings in pet food virtually pay for my $50/yr membership. They also sell high quality litter, treats, bets, toys, and scratching posts.
Good luck with your new babies! We are adopting a sphynx kitten in December and the wait is killing me!
Petco normally carries only clumping, so go to a local pet store to find some. I feed my kittens Wiskas kitten pouches, but royal canin 36 is also really good for new borns. i like using EverClean clumping for my cats. Switch to clumping when they are around a year old. give each cat one bowl; you want to make sure each one gets the right amount of food.
I’ve always fed my kittens Purina Kitten Chow, slightly moistened to start if they’re very young. As for separate food bowls, you can do this if they are fed well apart from each other…if not, they’ll be diving into each others bowls! Lastly, I prefer clumping, scented litter. For 2 using the same box, get litter for multiple cats.
Depending on how young / old they are when you get them
As 2 what kind of food When mine were really young I gave them wet food, Then I got them the softer . chewy food in the bags. Like kit and Kaboodle
I also used regular dirt or sand when I couldn’t afford to keep buying cat litter. It also got my cats used to the dirt so that they were quicker about catching on about where to go outside instead of having to come back inside to go to the rest room like some of mine do now.
It is good to be sure they have some things to keep their interests like play toys.
I’d have separate food bowls for them definitely. but they could share the same water bowel. Depending on how many cats you do have it is always good to remember that for every 2 cats or more you should have 1 littler box So if you have 2 cats 1 littler box, 3 or more you should have 2 and up etc.
Be sure to always keep the boxes clean though so they will use it more often. Than on the floor.
Also now would be agood time to be sure that they had their own place of rest. Though they may sleep together for a while they will need to feel they have their own place to go when they feel like being alone.
Also be sure to have a scratching post for them to use. It could be made of rug or other material or of a piece of wood on a base.
I just use the store brand littler now…
You can add borax to it though to keep the odor down or baking soda.
Also you may want to get some spray they sell it in different place to detoru them from scratching on your furniture that you dont want destroyed.
Get them little treats to reward them when they do something good that you are trying to encourage them on.
be sure to play with them some each day . It help you bond with them and release stress for you and assures them that you love the.
If they are restless for the first while that you get them you can place a travel alarm clock under a pillow they rest on or a blanket
As it has helped them to clam down. since they used to lay near their mother and feel and hear her heart beat.
Good luck I hope you enjoy your kitten and have many years of fun and love from them.
Kittens can use clumping litter when they are old enough to know not to eat it – generally that happens by 12 weeks. Petco will have regular old clay litter – it’s sold in bags, and generally found on the bottom shelf. If you want somthing you can scoop but won’t hurt the kittens if they ingest it, then take a look at World’s Best.
The best food for your kitten is canned food. Cats are carnivores, and are designed to get their moisture from their food. Dry foods keep them deydrated, and can lead to urinary tract disorders and kidney disease as they get older. Foods high in carbohydrates are now linked to obesity and diabetes, so if you’re going to feed a dry, then look for a grain-free dry. Since you’re already shopping at PetCo, take a look at Wellness Core. It’s suitable for feeding growing kittens, and they will thrive on it. No grains – but it will cost you the same as the RC and be better for them in the long run. For canned, you can use the Wellness regular or Core. Excellent quality food, and very suitable for growing kittens.
Ideally each kitten should have their own food bowl, but it seems that food tastes better out of someone else’s bowl ;o) Just make sure each is getting their fair share of the food, which is much easier to do when you feed canned. If you give each one their canned food on their own plate, you can monitor who’s eating what.
Also stock up on those cardboard scratch boxes, and a big heavy scratching post (tall enough for a full grown cat to stretch up on). Kittens especially seem to love those cardboard scratchers, and will actually train themselves to use them. Also get a pair of nail clippers so that you can get them accustomed to having their nails clipped from baby-hood on. You’ll have few or no problems with them scratching inappropriately this way.
Enjoy your babies, as they don’t stay babies long!
