what are some basic baking and cooking supplies?

I like cooking and baking but I don’t really have a lot of appliances and things that I should. What are some things that you suggest having in order to be prepared to make simple recipes? (example- certain bowls, various spoons or spatulas, sifter, etc) Thanks!!

I would get a couple of good mixing bowls in different sizes and at least one large one. Some spatulas and good measuring cups and spoons. Also a a liquid measuring cup is great to have, they have a 4 cup and a 2 cup size. I only use the 2 cup size it works just as well and doesn’t take up as much space.

Also a hand mixer is a must, you can get a cheap one from walmart for under $20 and they tend to last a while. Also counter containers for your flour and sugar, they make it easier to use when baking.

A good baking sheet and some and cake pan can be used for just about anything.

As for the sifter I’ve never had much use for one, and rarely come across a recipe that calls for it.

    Hope this helps, good luck

    must-haves:

pots and pans of various sizes
mixing bowls of various sizes, especially large
    electric mixer
    strainer
    sifter
    grater
    set of good, sharp knives
    whisk
    measuring cups/spoons
    funnel
    silicone spoons, spatulas and scrapers
    cake pans
    sheet pan
baking pans – loaf, 9×13, a deeper one

    very helpful:

    springform pan
    muffin pans
    timer
    food processor
    rolling pin
    scale

And there’s always more, you can never have too much stuff for your kitchen. But you’ll find that if you don’t have a certain item, you’ll be able to come up with a substitution from what you already have,

A good set of mixing bowls and a whisk are a must when you’re prepping ingredients. Other than that, it all depends on what you’re preparing. Items such as spatulas, a rolling pin, a wooden spoon, and some basic baking pans.

Here’s a little item I just picked up. This made muffin making so much easier for me and I hope it could do the same for you :-) http://frigidaire.stores.yahoo.net/siba.html

    Hope this helped!!!
