yeah i don’t see why not.your tetras should be fine there.

  2. Fish Man says:

NO. the betta needs a 5+ gallon heated and filtered aquarium and if you want small tetras as well you would need at least a 10 gallon aquarium and at least 6 tetras.

Bowls are unsuitable for fish and cruel.

have you asked him if he’s happy?

bettas are tropical fish. they need a heater, get him a 2.5gallon heated tank preferably with a filter. THEN he’ll be happy. for now he’s just surviving.

if you want other tank mates, get at LEAST a 10gallon with a filter and heater for tetras.

Fishman is totally correct, and I might add, bettas are tropical fish and need a heated, filtered tank of at least 5 gallons to keep them healthy. A betta can live up to 5 years if cared for properly. Living in an unheated, unfiltered bowl is a cruel and uncaring thing to do to any fish (even goldfish).

Most bettas don’t live longer than 6-10 months in bowls because the constant fluctuation of temperatures from daytime to nighttime cause their immune system to malfunction. First they become sluggish and just sit on the bottom, then they stop eating and finally starve to death or die of a simple infection that they could not fight off.

If you decide to get your pet a tank, do not get the tetras, most of that species are nippy fish that would continually chase the betta’s long flowing fins, just for fun. Some cherry barbs would work with a betta, or some neons or guppys, they are not aggressive like tetras.

BTW, betta is pronounced bet-tah, not bay-tah.

Nothing should live in a one gallon tank. Except maybe shrimp.
